The handling equipment page is where farmers can monitor the status of their equipment. It shows if sensors are offline or surpassing thresholds for warnings and alerts to be sent. The existing cards weren’t communicating statuses clearly and were in need of a design overhaul.
• The existing cards were a bit overwhelming, having three different ways to show warnings and alerts without being clear on the difference.
• Small labels reduced the ability to quickly scan through cards. The text displaying warnings/alerts needed to be given higher visibility.
• Rotatable 3D-models were used for the equipment images, offering no additional information and slowing page load times.
• Lastly, to view an equipments’ detail page, the small button in the corner was the only clickable element. Making for a small tap target on mobile for farmers to hit.
• Alert statuses were simplified to just two much larger icons. Alert labels and numbers were made much bigger, as they didn’t have near enough importance in the previous design.
• The Equipment name text was made larger, increasing the contrast with the equipment type text below, making for an easier to scan layout.
• The 3D-models offered no benefit to farmers on this page, so they were replaced with static JPG images, increasing page load times and decreasing frustration when scrolling on mobile.
• The ‘View Machine’ button was made much larger and easier to see, but for ease of use, the whole cards were made clickable.
Along with the increased text throughout the card, larger button, clearer alerts, and the removal of 3D-objects impeding scrolling, a filter search bar was added to help farmers find the equipment they’re searching for much faster.
